Cindy sheehan vigil |
August 7, 2005: A mother named Cindy Sheehan was protesting outside of George Bush’s house in Texas, protesting to bring soldiers out of Iraq. Her son, Casey Sheehan, was killed in Iraq on April 4, 2004 and began protesting August 6, 2005 and lasted 4 weeks.[i] Both Cindy and her son were from Vacaville, California. She believed that it was unfair for these soldiers to be fighting in Iraq. When protesting, she refused to leave President Bush’s house until she could talk with him directly. Cindy wanted to give a realization that if President Bush’s children were at war, would he think it was so noble to fight. For the 1,829 American deaths in Iraq at this time, Cindy represented the families of other soldiers who had died and wanted people to see the bigger picture that these soldiers’ lives were not just a number to be shown. A quote from Cindy Sheehan saying "I want to ask the president, why did he kill my son?" Sheehan told reporters. "He said my son died in a noble cause, and I want to ask him what that noble cause is” questions whether the noble cause that President Bush stated is true by families and loved ones of soldiers that went to Iraq and died.
